About Ben

Counsellor. Advocate. Fellow Traveller.

I’m a qualified integrative counsellor (CPCAB), member of BACP and NCPS, and passionate about neurodiversity. My own ADHD shapes my approach—practical, flexible, and focused on acceptance. I’m here to help others find their strengths and thrive.

I mean, many people may berate their ADHD and I must confess it definitely makes some tasks around organisation etc much harder for me, and I am definitely not too 'normal' :) but as I have said to many clients, whilst only speaking from my own personal experience, and it can be extremely frustrating at times, it also gives as well as takes - I don't think I would be such a 'sensitive' soul if it wasn't for my ADHD, and it undoubtedly gives me loads of enthusiasm and often a very creative mind - I personally wouldn't be without but as I said, I have learnt to shape my life, so that life is a bit kinder to me and my ADHD.

FAQs

What is ADHD in adults?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, focus, and impulse control. In adults, it can impact work, relationships, and daily life, often presenting as chronic disorganisation or restlessness.

What is rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD)?
RSD is an intense emotional sensitivity to perceived criticism or rejection, common in people with ADHD. It can cause strong emotional reactions and avoidance behaviours.

How does the assessment referral work?
You can book a professional ADHD assessment directly with ADHD Certify at www.adhdcertify.co.uk. During October, they offer £100 off for National ADHD Month—ADHD100. Outside of October, use my code Ben25 for £25 off. I also receive a similar fee, if you use my referral fee. Again, the only reason I am linking to this Private Assessment (despite never receiving any referral fees) is that I know the waiting list for NHS assessments are currently crazy, I have heard anywhere between 2 years and 8 years talked about. I mean I have mixed opinions about ADHD assessments for adults, in my own case I am very aware that I do have ADHD but I have not had a formal assessment, as I have no desire to be on ADHD meds (stimulants), and prefer to just adapt my living to how I am.

Is therapy right for me if I have ADHD?
Therapy can help you understand your ADHD, develop coping strategies, and build acceptance. My approach is practical, flexible, and tailored to your needs as someone with lived ADHD experience.
Again, though - we are all different and I don't think having ADHD in itself should mean we need Therapy, it is only that often the world is a little harder for those with neurodiversity, so some extra assistance may be required. I mean, I am a huge fan of counselling for all, as I truly believe it empowers us to live our best fullest lives

ADHD Assessment Referral

Need an ADHD Assessment?
Long NHS waiting lists? I recommend ADHD Certify—quicker, more affordable, and you get £25 off with my code Ben25 (or £100 off in October, no code needed). As I said, really your choice if you feel you need an assessment, for me personally I have downloaded the forms previously and whilst I am not qualified to do assessments, it is pretty clear to me, that I would be well over the threshold for being diagnosed with ADHD.

Transparency: I should get a small referral fee if you use my code.

I am planning a full ADHD course in future.. just may take some time..
